About

My name is Kim Broomby

I am a Personal Trainer, Group Instructor, Gym Instructor, Aqua Fitness Instructor, Boxing Instructor and Pilates Instructor. Although I instruct many different styles of exercise and activity my enjoyment and fulfillment come from being active myself and seeing clients, community, family and friends being active also. It is not just a passion that drives me, it is simply a parallel force in my universe. It allows me to help people be a healthier and happier version of themselves.

Growing up on a mixed farm in Central West NSW was a valuable introduction to being strong, fit, healthy and ‘balanced’. At an early age my siblings and I helped out with sheep work and general farming jobs. There was little to no time for sitting around watching TV and thankfully, no hand held devices to sit us on our butts for hours on end. We were all part of a team, each having as much of an important role as the other.

It never occurred to me during our childhood how the physical activity and teamwork would follow through to adolescence and adulthood. Playing team sports and learning to navigate my body through training and game days was all trial and error- mainly error. There were no training programs, nutrition guides, sleep recommendations, supplements, recovery sessions or fitness goals. It was just train hard and play harder! I loved it!

Hitting my late 20’s and 2 out of 5 children later I realised I wanted to become a Fitness Leader (no Cert 3 back then) It began with a few classes a week in our town Hall with some amazing people who came along to join in. It didn’t take long before I realised it wasn’t only the physical improvement clients were seeking, it was just as much the mental improvement they sought.

By this time our community had lost nearly all of its team sports as the population was declining or aging. Group Exercise was our way of working together and staying fit. As the temperature during summer hits 30o-40o regularly and the Hall has no Airconditioning I began Instructing Aqua Fitness classes at the local swimming pool during summer also.

Early days saw me take a study trip to Westmead Children’s Hospital where I studied Kids Fitness. This was an incredible experience and taught me the importance of being active from a very young age. With this experience I have been able to work with children and staff at local schools and pools.

For many years I continued to run a few classes each week with no real direction or purpose. Until…. after an Aqua Fitness Class in Quandialla I was running late for a meeting with our Bank Manager. Dripping wet and not very focused on budgets and financial reviews, our Bank Manager and I chatted about the importance of group exercise classes in small rural communities. Her dream was to expand her Active Farmers group (Mangoplah and Uranquinty) to other rural communities to promote physical health and mental health amongst our local farmers.

Within a year I had become a licensed Trainer to Active Farmers and started to take the responsibility of other people’s health and well-being far more seriously. During the next few years, as a trainer with Active Farmers, I had Group Exercise classes running in Quandialla, Grenfell, Caragabal and Wirrinya each week.

Not only was I loving the role with Active Farmers, meeting amazing new people, giving rural communities access to a variety of activities and contributing to the well-being of so many more people, I also became involved with the Weddin Suicide Prevention Program. The Local Working Party comprises of Health workers and community members, dedicated to improve access to Mental Health services, education, support, intervention and eliminate suicide in our region.

Covid-19 has changed our lives forever. Our sense of control and certainty is questionable as we face a new norm’ of safe travel within our own country, social distancing and isolating all while trying to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Face to face exercise sessions have been substituted with Virtual classes or written workouts. Moving forward in the fitness world I plan to combine Group face to face classes with Virtual Classes and many other well-being events. I am so excited by the future and hope to help many more people in their quest to become healthier and happier versions of themselves.
